Once reserved mainly for weddings, festivals and traditional ceremonies, glass bangles are now making a strong comeback in everyday fashion, especially among Gen Z consumers embracing nostalgic styling trends.
From pastel-coloured stacks paired with oversized shirts to single statement bangles worn with denim and watches, the traditional accessory is being reimagined through modern fashion aesthetics.
Fashion enthusiasts say the trend is deeply connected to memory, culture and personal identity.
“Glass bangles carry emotional value right from our grandmothers’ era,” said fashion enthusiast Veekshitha Gowda.
Celebrity stylist Rukmini Nitin explained that glass bangles have existed across Indian cultures for generations and became widely popular because of their affordability and accessibility across social groups.
Traditionally associated with marriage, prosperity and feminine energy, glass bangles continue to hold cultural significance in ceremonies such as South India’s Valaikappu ritual.
However, social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest are now helping younger audiences style them in new ways alongside corsets, jackets, Indo-Western outfits and streetwear-inspired looks.
Content creator Anupama Raj said Gen Z is increasingly drawn towards vintage Bollywood fashion, traditional fabrics and nostalgic accessories.
Fashion creators are experimenting with layered stacks, pastel shades, mirror-work designs, asymmetrical textures and colourful combinations.
Maximalist stylist Shivani Jai said the revival also connects with the growing popularity of Y2K aesthetics and expressive fashion trends.
“You can wear a white T-shirt, denim, a watch and a few glass bangles, and it elevates the outfit,” Gowda said.
Experts also believe the trend is benefiting artisans and traditional sellers by giving them greater visibility online while allowing old craftsmanship to adapt to modern fashion preferences.#Fashion #GenZ #GlassBangles #Lifestyle #TraditionalFashion #newskarnataka
