Federico Chiesa has spoken candidly about his challenging two seasons at Liverpool, revealing that the club prevented his planned January transfer and suggesting that teammate Curtis Jones could be close to joining Inter Milan after the English midfielder sought his advice on living in Italy.
In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInter1908, the Italian international shared his frustrations during his time at Anfield.
“The problem was playing time,” Chiesa admitted. “From early 2026 onwards, I hardly featured. In January, the club and Slot told me I couldn’t leave because they needed me to maintain squad depth; we were in an emergency situation. I understood and stayed with a smile. After all, we’re talking about Liverpool — last year they helped me win the Premier League. And yet…”
Chiesa confirmed that Liverpool had informed him about Juventus’s interest during the January window, but the potential deal ultimately fell through. He also addressed the debate surrounding his omission from Italy’s World Cup play-off squad, clarifying that it was purely a medical decision.
“Gattuso explained it and I thank him for that — Rino is a wonderful person,” Chiesa said. “Unfortunately, injuries are part of football, and I arrived at Coverciano with physical issues. After a medical evaluation, I was sent home. I understand that people might have thought differently at the time, but the real pain was watching Italy fail to qualify for the World Cup.”

Looking ahead, Chiesa made it clear that regular playing time will determine his next move. “If I can’t find consistency in the Premier League, I’ll have to explore other options,” he said, confirming that he will join Liverpool’s pre-season camp in the United States before meeting with new head coach Andoni Iraola.
When asked about a possible move to Como, Chiesa responded warmly. “Fabregas is a top coach — no one could have imagined a Como performing at this level,” he commented.
The most intriguing revelation came when Chiesa discussed Liverpool players drawing attention from Serie A clubs. “Jones only asked me how life is in Italy,” Chiesa revealed. “I told him the lifestyle is great and the weather is far better than Liverpool. Jones is technically gifted, and Inter are right to be interested in him. As for Alisson, from what I’ve heard, he’ll stay in England — but we’ll see. He’s definitely among the top five goalkeepers in the world.”
