Incident Overview

A tragic incident unfolded on Friday afternoon in downtown Towson, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old undergraduate student from Towson University, identified as Nasir Majied. The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. while he was driving north on York Road near Towson Circle. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Mark Ginsberg, the president of Towson University, expressed his sorrow in a statement released on Saturday, describing Majied's death as a significant loss. He emphasized the university's commitment to supporting Majied's family and friends during this difficult time. Ginsberg stated, "It is with a heavy heart that I announce the tragic loss of Nasir Majied, a valued member of our university community. We stand with his family and all who are grieving his passing."

Investigation Details

According to investigators, Majied was targeted while driving when an assailant in another vehicle opened fire, hitting him multiple times. The police are currently working to locate the shooter and have not yet provided a detailed description of the suspect's vehicle. Reports suggest that road rage may have played a role in the incident, although authorities are considering other potential motives as well.

Director Lepola-Stewart indicated that there was likely only one occupant in each vehicle involved in the shooting, but it remains unclear if Majied returned fire. Residents of Towson can expect an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues. Despite the tragic events, many locals attended a concert on Pennsylvania Avenue, with shop owner Patti Hall expressing her hope for peace in the community, stating, "Towson is a beautiful place; we need to be kind and respectful to one another."
