OpenAI has launched a new Dreaming Architecture to improve the memory capacity of ChatGPT. The purpose of this update, launched for Plus and Pro users in the US, is to remember old conversations, likes and important information more effectively.
Tech: OpenAI has introduced a major memory upgrade for ChatGPT, allowing the chatbot to better remember users’ past conversations, preferences, and information to ongoing projects. This new system based on Dreaming Architecture makes memory management more smart and updated, which will reduce the need to provide the same information again and again.
Memory system became smarter through Dreaming Architecture
OpenAI has introduced a new system called Dreaming Architecture to strengthen the memory capacity of ChatGPT. Working in the background, this technology keeps the information to old conversations organized and also keeps updating them from time to time. The company believes that this will enable ChatGPT to remember important context for a longer period of time and provide users with a more personalized experience.
ChatGPT will better understand past conversations and preferences
According to OpenAI, the new memory system is designed to continuously retain user preferences and conversation context. Under this, ChatGPT will be able to take important information from earlier discussions and use it better in future conversations. Also, if a user’s preferences or needs change over time, the system will be able to update itself accordingly. This is expected to provide more convenience to users working on a project or topic for a long time.
The company says that the biggest advantage of this change will be that users will not have to share the same information again and again. ChatGPT will be able to provide more accurate and relevant answers based on the context already available.
Better results seen in internal testing
OpenAI has also shared the results of its internal tests with this upgrade. According to the company, there has been a significant improvement in factual recall, i.e. the ability to remember pre-existing information correctly. Similarly, the performance of the system has also improved in terms of understanding user preferences and implementing them consistently. The new architecture also showed strong performance on memory tasks involving handling information that changes over time.
These results indicate that ChatGPT will now be able to use historical information more reliably and provide a more accurate experience to users.
Memory Summary Page will increase transparency
With this update, OpenAI is also providing a new Memory Summary Page. On this page, users will be able to see what information ChatGPT has saved about them. Apart from this, they will also be able to edit, update or completely delete this information if needed. Users will also be able to decide which topics should be remembered in future conversations and which should not.
Currently, this feature is being rolled out for Plus and Pro subscribers in the US. The company has indicated that in the coming weeks it will be made available to Free and Go users in other countries as well. OpenAI believes that this upgrade will be an important step towards making ChatGPT a more personal, useful and contextual AI assistant in the long run.
