  • Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s entry into Team India
  • On the verge of making history
  • Will Sachin’s 37-year record be broken?

There are indications that a new era is beginning in Indian cricket. In a selection committee meeting headed by Ajit Agarkar, the Board of Control for India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England as well as the Asian Games in September. The most talked about name in this selection is the 15-year-old young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Vaibhav has got a chance in the Indian senior team after his impressive performance in IPL 2026. At the same time, Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain of the Indian T20 team.

A chance to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record

15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is now all set to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record and make his debut in international cricket. If Vaibhav Suryavanshi gets a chance to debut in the upcoming series, he will become the youngest player to play international cricket for India. Currently this record is held by ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin made his international debut against Pakistan at the age of 16 years and 205 days. But as Vaibhav is currently only 15 years and 71 days old, he is on the verge of breaking this historic record.

With aggressive openers like Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson already in the Indian team, curiosity has been raised whether Vaibhav will get a chance in the final eleven. But due to his aggressive batting, it is clear that the team management is showing great faith in him.

“He forced us to choose” – Ajit Agarkar

Explaining the reason behind Vaibhav’s selection, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said, ‘Vaibhava Suryavanshi’s consistent performance forced us to select him. He has proved his talent in two consecutive IPL seasons. The big challenges ahead will be tough, but he has proven himself with excellent performances.’

He added, ‘He is still very young and his journey has just begun. We will see his game once the domestic season starts. But right now, we are focusing on what we can contribute to the T20 team.’

Special attention from BCCI

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has said that he has taken a cautious stance regarding Vaibhav’s future. “We are very cautious about Vaibhav’s future and are keeping a close eye on its progress,” he said.

Strong performance in IPL 2026

Vaibhav Suryavanshi caught the attention of the entire cricketing world in IPL 2026. He scored 776 runs in 14 matches and won the Orange Cap. It includes one century and five fifties. Interestingly, his strike rate was as much as 237.31. Against world-class bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, he impressed everyone with his fearless batting.

Upcoming Series Schedule

India will play two T20 matches against Ireland on June 26 and 28. After that, Team India will play a five-match T20I series against England from July 1. The matches of this series will be played on July 1, 4, 7, 9 and 11. After this, a three-match ODI series will be played between India and England from July 14, and the final match will be played at Lord’s on July 19.
