The ongoing conflict between Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress on two seats of Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand has now ended. According to sources, Congress has convinced JMM chief Hemant Soren who was adamant on contesting elections on both the seats. It is being told that party observers Bhupesh Baghel and Ajay Sharma had a long discussion with CM Soren regarding this issue, after which he agreed.
Sources say that after the tension between the two parties ends and CM Hemant Soren agrees, now both the parties will contest on one seat each from Jharkhand. It is being told that after the agreement between Congress and JMM, CM Soren has invited all the MLAs of the alliance for dinner tonight (Sunday, June 7).
In fact, during the Rajya Sabha elections 2026 in Jharkhand, a situation of tension had arisen between JMM and Congress, which are part of the ruling alliance. On behalf of the Congress, Jharkhand resident and media advisor to party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Pranab Jha was made its candidate.
JMM had expressed displeasure when Congress announced its candidate Pranab Jha for one of the two seats. JMM alleged that its alliance partner had taken this decision without JMM's approval. According to JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya, Congress has hurt their sentiments by announcing its candidate without taking them into confidence.
After this, JMM had announced to field candidates on both the seats. Because JMM-Congress alliance has enough numerical strength to win both the seats. Considering the current situation, the party had decided to contest on both the seats to prevent BJP from winning. After the JMM leadership meeting last Friday, many party leaders said that the party can field candidates on both the seats.
However, on Saturday (June 6), JMM announced former minister Baidyanath Ram as its official candidate from one seat. This was announced by senior JMM leader and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya. JMM MLA and former minister Baijnath Ram had said that the party was not taken into confidence before declaring Pranab Jha as the Congress candidate. He said that JMM has a claim on both the seats of Rajya Sabha, hence all the party leaders present in the meeting advised to field candidates on both the seats.
