Bernardo Silva’s profile has been described as an ideal match for Barcelona.
Portugal’s national team coach, Roberto Martinez — who also manages Cristiano Ronaldo — believes that Bernardo Silva would be a perfect addition to the Catalan giants.
At present, Bernardo Silva is focused on representing Portugal in a series of friendly matches ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Nevertheless, speculation surrounding his future continues to intensify.
The 31-year-old midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to the Spanish La Liga side, Barcelona.
Barcelona’s interest in Silva is not new, but the rumours have gained significant momentum this summer following confirmation that Silva will leave Manchester City as a free agent.
The growing speculation eventually prompted Roberto Martinez to comment on the situation.
The Spanish coach was asked whether his player would fit well with Barcelona’s playing style.
Without hesitation, Martinez asserted that Bernardo Silva’s profile perfectly suits the Blaugrana.
“I think Bernardo Silva is an extraordinary player who would fit into any dressing room in world football,” Martinez told Sportskeeda, as quoted by BolaSport.com.
“A player of this calibre rarely becomes available on a free transfer, but he’s someone who can adapt to any system and style of play.”
“He elevates the performance of the players around him.”
“It’s not just about his position — it’s about his football intelligence and technical ability, which allow him to excel in every action he takes.”
“I have absolutely no doubt that he would fit in perfectly at Barcelona,” added the former Belgium national team coach.
Earlier, Bernardo Silva himself had admitted that Barcelona is one of the clubs he finds attractive for the next stage of his career.
However, the former AS Monaco player emphasised that he has not yet made a final decision.
Silva appears determined not to let transfer rumours distract him.
He prefers to stay fully focused on helping the Selecao das Quinas advance deep into the major tournament this summer.
It is highly likely that Silva’s future and his next club will only be decided after the 2026 World Cup concludes.
After defeating Chile 2–1 in their previous friendly match, Portugal are scheduled to play their next warm-up game against Nigeria on 11 June.
The clash with Nigeria will be Cristiano Ronaldo and company’s final tune-up before they open their World Cup campaign against Congo in their first Group K match on 18 June.
Portugal will then face Uzbekistan on 24 June, before wrapping up their group-stage fixtures against Colombia on 27 June.
