Broadway's biggest celebration is underway with the 79th Annual Tony Awards honouring the best productions and performances of the season.

The evening began with the "Act One" preshow, hosted by Laura Benanti and Tituss Burgess, before the main ceremony at Radio City Music Hall. This year's telecast is being hosted by singer Pink.

' The Lost Boys ' and ' Schmigadoon !' have emerged as the night's most-nominated shows.

The two musicals head into the ceremony with 12 nominations each, making them the frontrunners across multiple categories. Close behind is the acclaimed revival of ' Ragtime ' with 11 nominations, while ' Death of a Salesman ' and ' Cats: The Jellicle Ball ' each earned nine nominations.

A total of 24 Broadway productions are competing across 26 categories. In addition to the competitive categories, the ceremony is set to celebrate several landmark anniversaries in Broadway history. Special performances will honour long-running and influential musicals including 'The Book of Mormon', 'Chicago' and ' A Chorus Line '.

Audiences can also expect performances from all seven nominees competing in the Best Musical and Best Musical Revival categories. The race for Best New Musical is shaping up to be one of the night's most competitive contests, with four distinctly different productions vying for the top honour.
