Many decisions are being taken by the government on illegal infiltrators in West Bengal. In a BJP program on Sunday, CM Shubhendu Adhikari said that about 4,800 people have been sent to Bangladesh. There are 836 people in holding centres. He said that border security and illegal infiltrators are one of the biggest concerns for the state government. The CM said, "We have started the process of handing over land to BSF. Land is to be given in an area of 556 km, out of which we have already handed over land in an area of 100 km. Our priority was the 'Chicken's Neck' area of North Bengal."
CM said that we have started the work of sending back those infiltrators who do not come under the purview of CAA. MHA's instructions were that instead of sending him to jail, he should be handed over directly to BSF. However, here the infiltrators were treated like sons-in-law and were sent to jail. Now holding stations have been set up in the border districts. From there till now 4,800 people have been sent across the border and 836 people are still in holding stations. We are making arrangements to send them. This process will continue. He said that this was the priority of the government. As you all know, the demography of Bengal had changed.
This statement of Shubhendu Adhikari has come before the 57th Bi-Annual High-Level Border Coordination Conference between BSF and BGB to be held in New Delhi from June 8 to 11. A report from Dhaka said that Bangladesh will discuss the issues of India's alleged 'push-in' and border killings in the upcoming meeting of the chiefs of border security forces of the two countries.
According to the report of news agency PTI, Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told journalists in his office that the situation on the border, cooperation between the two countries and especially the issue of push-in of illegal people (by BGB) will be given importance. Last month, responding to the Bangladeshi minister's statement on the "push-in" issue, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said, "We hope that Bangladesh will speed up citizenship checks so that the return of illegal immigrants can be facilitated." In this conference starting from Monday, the Bangladeshi delegation will be led by BGB chief Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, while the Indian team will be led by BSF DG Praveen Kumar.
