The re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducted using the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system; however, CBSE will carry out this re-evaluation on its own portal. The IIT review panel has granted approval for this move. CBSE was permitted to conduct the re-evaluation on its own portal due to several security vulnerabilities identified in the Coempt EduTeck portal. The review panel acknowledged that the Coempt EduTeck portal had security flaws that could have led to the leakage of sensitive data and records.

Let us understand the entire matter in detail. We will look at the recommendations made by the IIT panel and the decisions regarding re-evaluation, as well as the controversy surrounding Coempt EduTeck and the concerns raised by the IIT panel.

**Controversy over the Coempt EduTeck tender and OSM**
This year, CBSE conducted the evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets using the OSM system, with the tender awarded to Coempt EduTeck. Following the declaration of results, many students claimed their marks had been reduced. Upon obtaining scanned copies of their answer sheets, students reported issues such as blurred images, missing pages, swapped answer sheets, and unmarked questions. This sparked an uproar over the awarding of the tender to Coempt EduTeck. The government has constituted a committee to investigate the matter. Additionally, several technical issues had surfaced regarding the portal used for accessing scanned copies.

**IIT Madras-IIT Kanpur panel approves CBSE portal**
In light of the controversy surrounding CBSE's OSM process and the problems with the scanned copy portal, the government formed a review panel comprising experts from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur. This panel identified several flaws in the Coempt EduTeck portal, subsequently approving CBSE to launch its own portal for the re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets. According to a report by the news agency ANI, an IIT expert review panel has approved CBSE's re-evaluation portal following security concerns and attempted cyberattacks.

**CBSE to manage data; features to remain the same**
Citing sources, ANI reported that all records of Class 12 answer sheets and examination-related data have now been transferred to servers directly managed by CBSE; this move aims to give the board greater control over both security and operational management.

ANI also reported, citing the IIT panel, that CBSE has decided against using the Coempt EduTeck platform. Student and examination data have now been shifted to infrastructure managed directly by the board. A member of the IIT panel stated that while the new CBSE portal offers features similar to the previous platform, several security enhancements have been implemented to bolster data protection and address shortcomings identified during the review process. Additional security measures have been incorporated into the new portal to better safeguard examination-related data.
