How to get more and larger flowers on rose plants

Correct pruning technique: remove dry and diseased branches

To get continuous buds and big flowers from the rose plant, the most important task is to prune it from time to time. When plant branches become old or dry, they continue to suck the plant’s main nutrition. Because of this, the plant does not have the energy needed to form new buds. While pruning, keep in mind that the branches which have dried or have black spots on them, always cut them at an angle of 45 degrees. By doing this, water does not accumulate on the cut branches and the risk of fungus is significantly reduced.

Make soil acidic: Organic fertilizer rich in potassium and phosphorus

Often people add such fertilizer to the rose plant which only makes the leaves grow but does not produce flowers. Roses need potassium and phosphorus the most to form buds. For this, using organic fertilizers prepared at home instead of chemical medicines gives the best results.

  • Cowdung Manure: Mix well-rotted cowdung manure or vermicompost into the soil at least once a month to provide the required nitrogen to the plant.
  • Banana peel powder: To overcome the deficiency of potassium, dry banana peels in the sun and make powder of it and mix it in the soil. Apart from this, you can soak the peels in water for 2-3 days and apply that water directly to the roots.
  • Use of tea leaves: Rose plant likes acidic soil. By thoroughly washing and drying used tea leaves and mixing them with the soil, the pH level of the soil remains suitable for roses.
