Manchester United are fully concentrating their efforts on securing the signature of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United.

Manager Michael Carrick is aiming for a complete overhaul of United’s midfield, similar to the rebuild seen at Paris Saint-Germain, with Ederson identified as the first crucial addition.

The West Ham midfielder, known for his impressive ability both in possession and off the ball, is widely regarded as a player who could follow in the footsteps of current Premier League star and former United target, Declan Rice.

This is why the Red Devils are determined to overcome all obstacles in order to finalise the transfer.

So far, West Ham have remained firm on their initial valuation, while Real Madrid’s entry into the race has made negotiations more complex.

The former Southampton player has openly expressed his admiration for Bruno Fernandes and his wish to play alongside him at Old Trafford.

However, reports suggest that super-agent Jorge Mendes is attempting to influence the deal in favour of a move to Real Madrid instead.

Journalist Shaun Connolly has provided a positive update on the situation. He explained that although Jose Mourinho is indeed an admirer of his fellow countryman, Mateus Fernandes is just one of several players being monitored by the Spanish champions.

For Manchester United, however, the 21-year-old is viewed as a top priority, which is why the highly rated midfielder is inclined towards joining the English giants.

Connolly stated, “Mateus Fernandes is one of several players that Mourinho admires, but he is not a priority presently.”

He added, “A player of his ability and potential naturally attracts interest from several European clubs, and a Madrid move wouldn’t be shocking. However, there are still concerns about his valuation.

“Given Fernandes’ potential for further development, this remains a delicate situation. Still, he has shown preference for Manchester United, and the club are actively working to reach an agreement on the transfer fee.”

This indicates that Real Madrid may not pose a major obstacle, provided INEOS can successfully negotiate a breakthrough over the Portuguese international’s price tag.

The opportunity to play alongside and eventually take over from Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford is seen as a significant attraction — one that Manchester United hope will ultimately seal the deal.
