Arsenal’s summer has kicked off with the club initiating sweeping changes across multiple departments.

Just a couple of weeks after their Champions League final defeat, Arsenal have begun what promises to be a hectic off-season behind the scenes.

Manager Mikel Arteta led his team to a Premier League title this season, realising the potential shown in recent domestic campaigns. After taking Paris Saint-Germain to penalties in Budapest, work has already commenced on strengthening the squad further.

With Arteta keen to make fine adjustments and address weaknesses that have affected the team over the past few years, the Gunners are clearly determined to keep progressing rather than settle for their recent success.

According to FourFourTwo, Arsenal are planning several major signings during the transfer window, with a right-back, a midfielder, and a left-winger all reportedly on their radar. Arteta’s ambition is to become the first Arsenal manager since the 1930s to successfully defend a league title.

Club owner Stan Kroenke attended the Premier League title celebrations in London, while his son Josh Kroenke took a prominent role both in the media and at the victory parade. The message from Kroenke Sports Entertainment (KSE) ownership was clear: this triumph marks only the beginning of Arsenal’s resurgence.

As reported by Sam Wallace of The Telegraph, Arsenal’s first move of the summer is taking place off the pitch, with former Olympic sprinter Arnaldo Abrantes set to be appointed as the club’s new head doctor.

This follows the surprise dismissal of Zafar Iqbal. The always-reliable David Ornstein confirmed in The Athletic that the Portuguese specialist is indeed expected to take over the role.

Iqbal had served as head doctor for two years, replacing Gary O'Driscoll, who departed for Manchester United in 2024. According to Sami Mokbel of the BBC, Iqbal is “highly respected throughout football,” and the decision to part ways with him came “unexpectedly.”

Injuries have been a recurring issue for Arsenal over the last two seasons, with several players requiring surgery in the previous campaign. Key players such as Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Martin Odegaard have all missed significant portions of the season due to fitness problems.

This week, Jurrien Timber was ruled out of the World Cup for the Netherlands after failing to recover from a groin injury in time for the tournament, while William Saliba remains doubtful for France’s group-stage matches.

Bukayo Saka is also still regaining full fitness following the injury that sidelined him from international duty in March. Thomas Tuchel recently shared an update on the winger’s recovery progress.

FourFourTwo further reports that Arsenal are also restructuring their Hale End academy setup, with Per Mertesacker having recently stepped down from his role overseeing youth development.

As of now, Arsenal have not finalised their full pre-season schedule, apart from a friendly against Real Betis and a Community Shield clash against Manchester City in Cardiff.
