Reports from Spain suggest that Arsenal have received a significant boost in their efforts to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

The Argentine striker has drawn attention from Spanish powerhouses Barcelona and Real Madrid this summer. Reports indicate that Real Madrid had a £130 million offer turned down by Atletico for the 26-year-old forward.

Atletico Madrid have made it clear they intend to retain Alvarez beyond this transfer window and have criticised their domestic rivals for pursuing the player despite his importance to the club.

However, according to Spanish outlet AS, Arsenal are now emerging as a viable destination for Alvarez. The North London club are reportedly eager to bring the former Manchester City striker back to the Premier League.

The report further mentions that Barcelona are unwilling to exceed the €100 million price threshold, which could open the door for Arsenal to make a serious move for the Argentine international.

In addition, The Athletic reports that Arsenal have also made enquiries regarding Juventus youngster Kenan Yildiz, though the Italian club have made it clear he is not available for transfer.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports claim that Real Madrid have expressed interest in Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori. The Spanish club are expected to reappoint Jose Mourinho as their head coach, and given Mourinho’s previous working relationship with Calafiori during their time together at Roma, Real have reportedly initiated discussions about a potential deal for the Italian defender.

Elsewhere, Sky Sports add that Tottenham Hotspur are still optimistic about signing Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke this summer. Additionally, Marcos Senesi is on the verge of finalising his move to Spurs following his departure from Bournemouth.

In other transfer developments, Manchester United are exploring the possibility of securing a deal for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The Red Devils are also evaluating an approach for Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow as they look to strengthen their squad depth ahead of the new season.
