Manchester United are encountering several challenges in their bid to strengthen the midfield ahead of the new season.

The Red Devils have already completed the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but the club remains determined to add at least one more midfielder to their squad this summer.

United’s top target, Elliot Anderson, reportedly prefers a move to Manchester City. Meanwhile, West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion have placed steep valuations on Mateus Fernandes and Carlos Baleba, respectively, complicating matters further for United.

Reports now suggest that Nigeria international Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has emerged on United’s radar. The 25-year-old midfielder is known for his energetic style of play, impressive ball progression, and tenacity in duels.

Dele-Bashiru still has two years remaining on his current deal with Lazio, having joined the Serie A club from Hatayspor in 2024. Before his move to Italy, he gained senior-level experience in England with Sheffield Wednesday.

Significantly, Dele-Bashiru is a graduate of Manchester City’s academy. This connection could be key, as United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, spent a decade working at City, which possibly influenced the inclusion of Dele-Bashiru’s name on United’s shortlist.

According to Sky Sports, Dele-Bashiru is content with life in Italy, but sources close to the player believe “he is open to a move to the Premier League.”

In a related development, Manchester United are reportedly in discussions to sign one of Manchester City’s promising academy midfielders. Teenage midfielder Tyler Fletcher is also expected to see more first-team opportunities next season.

The 19-year-old has been named in Scotland’s World Cup squad, and such international exposure could prove invaluable for his development ahead of pre-season under Michael Carrick.

At youth level, United are continuing their efforts to attract top young talent from their rivals. Recent reports from The Peoples Person indicate that England U16 midfielder David Eze is preparing to leave City this summer.

Eze, a defensive midfielder who also holds an Irish passport, has reportedly begun talks with Manchester United regarding a potential transfer during the upcoming window.
