New information has emerged regarding Manchester United’s initial bid for Mateus Fernandes, as the club accelerates its plans to bring the talented midfielder to Old Trafford.

As the summer transfer window approaches, strengthening the midfield remains a key priority for United. The club has already secured an agreement with Atalanta for Ederson.

Ederson’s move will be finalised once Brazil complete their World Cup campaign in North America. The midfielder recently received a surprise national team call-up after Flamengo’s Wesley suffered an injury.

United are now shifting their focus towards additional midfield reinforcements, with Fernandes topping their shortlist. Despite West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League, Fernandes delivered an outstanding individual campaign. He was a standout performer for the Hammers, though even his impressive displays in midfield could not prevent their drop to the Championship.

However, United face competition in their pursuit of the Portuguese star. Reports indicate that new Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is also keen on signing Fernandes, while Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest as well.

Even so, Fernandes is believed to favour a move to Manchester United. The main challenge for United lies in meeting West Ham’s valuation of the player. Despite their weakened negotiating position following relegation, the London club are demanding £80 million for the 21-year-old midfielder.

With West Ham urgently needing to raise funds, Fernandes is regarded as their most valuable asset.

According to FootballTransfers, United are preparing a formal bid for Fernandes, expected to be submitted in the coming days.

The publication reports, “Fernandes is anticipated to depart the club before the end of the summer transfer window amidst significant interest. Sources have informed FootballTransfers that Manchester United are planning to make a serious offer for the 21-year-old in the coming days.”

They further add, “We understand that Manchester United’s first offer for Fernandes will be around €75 million (£65 million), although this falls short of West Ham’s current valuation.”

Given that West Ham will now compete in the Championship, a £65 million offer appears to be a reasonable price for Fernandes. The Hammers’ best chance of reaching their £80 million target would be through sparking a bidding war for their prized player.

United hold a degree of leverage in the negotiations, particularly as Fernandes is reportedly keen on joining the Red Devils.
