Manchester United made a strong comeback this season after the disappointment of the 2024/25 campaign.

Their fortunes began to turn around in January when Michael Carrick took charge as interim manager.

The English coach guided the team to a third-place finish in the Premier League, securing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Under Carrick’s leadership, United recorded significant wins against major rivals including Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa.

There was also a noticeable improvement in their attacking play.

The Red Devils managed only 44 goals in the 2024/25 season but found the back of the net 69 times in the most recent campaign.

In fact, only Arsenal and Manchester City scored more goals in the league this season.

Although Manchester United were involved in several entertaining matches and memorable goals, their thrilling 3-2 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium perfectly captured their season’s spirit.

According to the official Premier League website, “The five-goal thriller at Emirates Stadium has been chosen by fans as the top Premier League match of the season.”

The website added, “Arsenal 2-3 Manchester United has been voted the best match of the 2025/26 Premier League season. It received an impressive 50 per cent of the fan votes, beating out Man Utd 4-4 AFC Bournemouth, Fulham 4-5 Manchester City, and nine other standout fixtures that were shortlisted.”

This match was only Carrick’s second game in charge but turned out to be crucial in defining the tone of his managerial spell at Old Trafford.

United initially fell behind when Lisandro Martinez deflected a shot into his own net. However, just before the interval, Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on an error to equalise past David Raya.

Patrick Dorgu then produced a stunning long-range strike to give the visitors the lead.

Arsenal responded in the final ten minutes, levelling the score when Mikel Merino converted from a corner during a goalmouth scramble.

Ultimately, it was Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha who sealed the victory for United, curling home a spectacular winner to ignite jubilant celebrations among the travelling fans.
