New Delhi: Millions of users across the world faced problems due to a sudden technical glitch in the services of Facebook and Instagram on Friday evening. Complaints about social media platforms not working properly came from many countries. Users reported that they were not able to update their account’s feed, while for some people the app was not loading completely.
After around 7 pm Indian time, the problem appeared to be increasing rapidly. A sudden jump was recorded in the number of complaints to Facebook and Instagram on outage monitoring website DownDetector. According to reports, this problem was not limited to any one country or region, but users from many parts including Asia, Europe and America reported similar problems.
In India too, a large number of users complained on social media that they are not able to use Facebook and Instagram normally. Many people posted on X (formerly Twitter) to find out if other users were facing similar problems. Some people said their feed was not updating, while others reported problems loading content. Many users also faced problems to login and messaging.
However, this technical glitch was not affecting all users equally. Some people reported that the websites of Facebook and Instagram were opening normally, but new posts or updates were not visible on the mobile apps. From this it is being speculated that the problem may not be in the users’ internet connection or device, but in Meta’s servers or backend system.
According to reports, the impact of this disruption was also seen on Facebook Messenger, due to which services on various platforms of Meta were affected. Meanwhile, no official information has been shared by the company regarding the reasons for the problem. Nor has it been told how much time it may take for services to become completely normal.
According to DownDetector data, more than one lakh complaints were filed to Facebook alone. A large number of users reported problems on Instagram also. At present, experts believe that this could be a widespread server-side outage, for the resolution of which users will have to wait for an official update from Meta.
