Sunny Deol’s blockbuster film “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha” has completed 25 years since its release on June 15, 2001. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film became a cultural phenomenon, with iconic moments like Tara Singh’s handpump scene still remembered by audiences today.

While Sunny Deol was always the first and final choice for the role of Tara Singh, the casting journey for Sakina was very different.

According to reports and film trivia, the makers initially considered actress Kajol for the role of Sakina. At that time, Kajol was already one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood, known for strong performances and a busy schedule.

However, she could not take up the film due to date issues and prior commitments. As a result, she stepped away from the project before it could materialize.

After Kajol’s exit, the role eventually went to Ameesha Patel, who had made a blockbuster debut a year earlier with “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai”. Gadar turned out to be another massive success for her, firmly establishing her place in the industry.

Her pairing with Sunny Deol worked strongly with audiences and became one of the most memorable on-screen couples of that era.
