It is often seen that people prefer western outfits in high-profile international events, but Nita Ambani is always known to stay connected to her Indian roots. In this conference, she chose a stunning Banarasi saree of Reliance’s ‘Swadesh’ brand. Nita Ambani used this platform not only to make a fashion statement but also to inspire Indian medical professionals to strengthen the country’s healthcare system. The beauty of her saree gave a new and deeper meaning to her appeal.

How was this masterpiece saree made?

This was not an ordinary saree, rather it would not be wrong to call it a ‘unique gift’ of Indian craftsmanship. There is a very interesting background behind the making of this saree and its specialty. The best quality Katan Silk was used to make this magnificent saree. The saree had such a rare and soft combination of teal and aqua i.e. light blue and green shades, which was soothing to the eyes as well as giving a very royal and elegant look. The real attraction of the saree were the beautiful golden zari flowers embroidered on it. These were woven using the most prestigious and difficult ‘Kadwa’ technique of Banaras. The specialty of this technique is that each design and motif is hand-woven separately on the loom with utmost precision. In this, the threads are not cut from the back, due to which the cloth becomes very strong and excellent in finishing. It took more than three months (90 days) to prepare this single saree. It has been brought to life by the hands of two of the most experienced and skilled master craftsmen of Banaras, Mohammad Yasin and Iqbal Ahmed. Decades of expertise and practice of these artisans could be clearly seen in the shine of every thread and zari of this saree.

Design inspired by Mughal gardens

If you look carefully at the pattern of this saree, you will get a glimpse of the rich history and architecture of India. The lattice flower motif made of golden threads on the saree was inspired by the geometric symmetry of the historical Mughal gardens. Along with this, Nita Ambani also carried a light turquoise colored dupatta on her shoulder. The coordination of this light dupatta with the heavy and intricate weave of the saree was such that it created a perfect balance of ‘royal grandeur’ and ‘simplicity’ in the entire saree.

perfect styling

Like a professional fashionista, Nita Ambani knows very well how balanced the styling should be with a saree or any outfit. She redefined her entire look very elegantly and delicately. She wore a matching blouse with the saree, which had fine bead work and textured embroidery. It was adding a modern twist to the traditional look. She had tied her hair in a neat low bun, which was decorated with fresh white mogra hairpins. This was doubling the beauty of the evergreen Indian style saree. Statement diamond earrings in the ears, subtle make-up on the face, slightly defined eyes and a small blue dot on the forehead. This overall look of Nita Ambani was very classy rather than loud.
