Reports indicate that Chelsea has reached an agreement to transfer their prominent player, Marc Cucurella, to Real Madrid, as stated by a sports news outlet. Currently, Cucurella is representing Spain in the United States during the FIFA World Cup, and the finalization of the transfer will occur once the tournament concludes.

Interest from Multiple Clubs

Numerous clubs expressed interest in acquiring the Euro 2024 star, but Cucurella has shown a preference for joining Real Madrid, the fierce rivals of his former club, Barcelona. There were also rumors linking him to a return to Barcelona, as well as potential moves to Atletico Madrid and Manchester City.

Transfer Fee Details

The transfer fee is reported to be £47.5 million, with an additional £4.3 million in performance-related add-ons, bringing the total to £51.8 million. Chelsea had previously signed Cucurella from Brighton for £63 million four years ago.

Cucurella's Time at Chelsea

During his time at Chelsea, Cucurella helped the team secure the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. However, he had previously voiced concerns regarding Chelsea's transfer strategies, particularly after the departure of Enzo Maresca earlier this year.

Chelsea's Premier League Performance

Chelsea's performance in the Premier League was less than stellar, finishing in 10th place with a record of 14 wins, 10 draws, and 14 losses, accumulating a total of 52 points.

Real Madrid's Summer Changes

Real Madrid has been active in the transfer market following a trophyless 2025-26 season. Florentino Perez has been re-elected as club president, and the legendary manager Jose Mourinho, who previously led the team from 2010 to 2013, has returned to the board. The club has already secured signings for Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva.

Chelsea's Search for a Replacement

In light of Cucurella's impending departure, Chelsea is considering Netherlands defender Jorrel Hato, who joined Ajax last summer, as a potential first-choice left-back for the upcoming season.
