The Central Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has provided significant relief to working professionals. The EPFO has relaxed the rules related to PF withdrawals and claims. Under the new changes, PF account holders can withdraw their entire PF balance under certain circumstances without providing any reason. This new government change has brought significant relief to employees. Under this new rule, PF account holders can withdraw 100% of their funds during difficult times.

What were the rules and difficulties?

According to the old process, if an employee was unemployed for a long time, or if the company had closed down, or if a natural disaster had struck, they had to provide a reason in advance for withdrawing their PF funds. Documents had to be attached for this purpose. Only then was the employee allowed to withdraw the entire PF amount. Often, the reasons given did not comply with EPFO rules, resulting in employee claims being rejected. Even if they were financially short, they would not receive PF benefits. But now the rules have changed.

What has changed with the new rule?

According to a government notification, the EPFO has now removed the requirement to provide a reason for withdrawals under this category under certain circumstances. This requirement has been partially lifted. If you have applied for a full PF withdrawal as per the rules and the reason is clear, you do not need to provide any additional reason or explanation. Your withdrawal claim under this category will not be rejected. After processing, the funds will be credited directly to your account.

What are the conditions for 100% withdrawal?

This change in the rule and the exemption to withdraw 100% PF is applicable only in certain circumstances.

If your company has been closed for more than 15 days or is under lockdown. Employees haven't received their salaries. The company has been closed for six consecutive months.

The employee has been fired. He lost his job due to retrenchment. He has challenged this decision in court.

The entire amount can be withdrawn for personal or family medical treatment, but this requires a certificate from the company and a medical expert.

How much PF can be withdrawn under normal circumstances?

A specific reason is required to withdraw the entire PF amount. However, no one can withdraw the PF amount at will. When you need money, you can withdraw up to 75% of your total savings at any time without any documentation. Therefore, certain circumstances must be met to withdraw the entire PF amount, but the rules must be followed.
