JAKARTA – FIFA has officially released the latest update to the men’s world rankings, as published on the organisation’s official website on Saturday, 13 June 2026.

According to the updated FIFA Rankings, the Indonesian national football team has moved up four places to 118th in the world after recording positive results during the June 2026 FIFA Matchday fixtures.

The Garuda squad now holds 1,157.14 points, an increase from 1,144.88 points in the previous update released on 1 April 2026.

This improvement reflects the steady progress of John Heitinga’s team as they prepare for upcoming international assignments.

Meanwhile, Argentina has reclaimed the top spot in the FIFA world rankings, overtaking Spain and France.

Indonesia Rises Four Spots After Perfect FIFA Matchday Results

Indonesia’s ranking surge was largely due to two consecutive victories during the June 2026 FIFA Matchday.

In an international friendly held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia convincingly defeated Oman 3–0 on 5 June 2026.

Four days later, Rizky Ridho and his teammates continued their strong form, securing a 1–0 win against Mozambique at the same venue.

These two wins significantly boosted Indonesia’s points total, helping them climb from 122nd to 118th in the world.

Several other nations also experienced notable ranking increases.

Hungary advanced three spots to 39th, Chile rose to 51st, while China climbed three places to 91st in the world.

Conversely, Serbia suffered the biggest drop among the top 100 teams, falling four places to 41st. Mali and Benin each slipped three positions.

Argentina Back on Top of FIFA World Rankings

At the summit, Argentina reclaimed the number one position in the FIFA world rankings. The reigning World Cup champions moved up from third place after securing victories in friendly matches against Honduras and Iceland.

These positive results further underline the impressive form of Lionel Scaloni’s side, who have also been dominant in the South American qualifiers.

Spain maintained their place in second, while France dropped to third following a disappointing run of pre–World Cup fixtures, including a loss to Ivory Coast.

England holds fourth place, followed by Portugal and Brazil. Morocco remains the highest–ranked African nation at seventh.

The top ten is completed by the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.

How FIFA Calculates the World Rankings

Since 2018, FIFA has employed an Elo–based ranking system developed by Arpad Elo.

This method adjusts points based on several factors, including the strength of the opponent, match outcome, importance of the game, and the expected result prior to kickoff.

Under this system, a victory against a higher–ranked team yields more points than a win over a lower–ranked side.

Therefore, Indonesia’s triumphs over Oman and Mozambique had a meaningful positive impact on their total points despite both being classified as international friendlies.

The Significance of FIFA Rankings

The FIFA Rankings play a crucial role in the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The rankings not only determine seedings for the tournament draw but also serve as a tiebreaker when teams are level on points, goal difference, and goals scored during the group stage.

Out of the 48 nations competing in the 2026 World Cup, 40 come from the top 48 of the FIFA world rankings. New Zealand will be the lowest–ranked participant at 85th, while debutants Curaçao and Haiti sit 82nd and 83rd respectively.

The three World Cup hosts occupy varying positions in the new list: Mexico is 14th, the United States 17th, and Canada 30th.

FIFA is scheduled to release the next update of the world rankings on 20 July 2026, following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup. With their current upward momentum, Indonesia has a strong opportunity to continue improving and move closer to breaking into the world’s top 100.
