The fourth match of the tri-series being played in Sri Lanka was played between India-A and Sri Lanka-A on June 15 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla. Tremendous drama was seen on the last ball of the match. Due to the scores of both the teams being equal, the match was tied and a super over was played to decide the result. Indian bowlers proved to be expensive in the Super Over, while the batsmen also could not show anything special, due to which Sri Lanka won in the Super Over.
Sri Lanka A team, which came to bat first in the Super Over, scored 16 runs. In reply, India A team could not reach this target and could score only 9 runs. Captain Sahan Arachige and Avishka Fernando came to bat for Sri Lanka A in the Super Over, while Arshad Khan was bowling for India. Whereas for India-A, Suryansh Shedge and Vaibhav Suryavanshi came out to bat but they could not lead the team to victory in front of the brilliant bowling of Kugathas Mathulan from Sri Lanka.
After losing the toss, India A got the chance to bat first. The Indian team did not have a good start and wickets kept falling. Neither Prabhsimran Singh nor Vaibhav Suryavanshi could make any significant impact and the bats of Rituraj Gaikwad and Tilak Verma also did not yield runs. Thanks to half-centuries from Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam, India-A managed to reach a respectable score. India-A team was all out for 265 runs in 49.2 overs.
Suryansh Shedge scored 72 runs in 66 balls and Vipraj Nigam scored 51 runs in 49 balls. Whereas, for Sri Lanka-A, Mohammad Shiraz and Vijaykant Vyaskanth took 3-3 wickets. Captain Sahan Arachchige, Kugathas Mathulan and Vanujaa Sahan took 1 wicket each, while Vipraj Nigam was run out.
Sri Lanka A wickets kept falling one after the other. However, due to small partnerships, he did not lag far behind in the innings. Apart from Sadira Samarawickrama, no batsman could cross the 40-run mark. Nevertheless, Sri Lanka managed to score 265 runs for 9 wickets in their 50 overs, thereby tying the match.
For Sri Lanka-A, Sadira Samarawickrama scored the highest score of 93 runs, while Niroshan Dickwella scored 37 runs. For India-A, Ayush Badoni took two wickets, while Arshad Khan, Nishant Sindhu, Vipraj Nigam, Anukul Roy and Suryansh Shedge took one wicket each.
After the match was tied, a Super Over was to be played but then the on-field umpires told India-A captain Tilak Verma that the light was not sufficient, hence the match could not be played further. Due to lack of floodlights in Dambulla Stadium, it was difficult to conduct Super Over.
However, Tilak Verma did not agree with this decision at all. He argued a lot with the umpires and demanded a super over but initially the umpires remained adamant on their decision. Then suddenly there was a new twist in the match. Sri Lanka-A team management agreed to play a super over, after which the decision was taken to conduct a super over and the match could proceed.
