Dambulla (Sri Lanka): Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may be just 15 years old, but no bowler nor any opponent should treat him as a kid when it comes to serious, competitive cricket.

The world’s leading bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan were at the receiving end of Vaibhav’s flashing blade in IPL 2026 recently. On Monday, at the Dambulla International Stadium, the Sri Lanka A team saw another side of Indian cricket’s wonderkid.

Perhaps upset not to have been able to guide India A to victory in the Super Over after the two teams posted identical 50-over scores of 265 in the tri-nation series, Vaibhav and his batting partner Suryansh Shedge had a few verbal exchanges with Sri Lanka A players as the Indians chased 17 runs for victory in the one-over shootout.

Conditions were difficult, with light fading fast. The Indians managed only 5 runs off the first four balls, and Vaibhav had to hit two sixes off the remaining deliveries to earn his team victory.

However, he only managed a 4 and a dot ball.

Then, tempers flared.

Vaibhav walked off after exchanging a few words with the ecstatic Sri Lankans, but then came back to the middle and pushed a Sri Lankan player, who threatened to charge at him. Thankfully, some calm minds stopped a possible ugly scuffle.

It seemed the bowler Kugathas Mathulan, who had denied Vaibhav the necessary big hits, said something to the Bihar schoolboy. He refused to take it lying down, showing that he fooled around with.
