The Governor of West Kalimantan, Ria Norsan, stated that the presence of Asian representatives at the world's biggest football event should be a source of shared pride.
“I also support Asian countries participating in the World Cup, such as South Korea, Japan, Iran, and Iraq. Hopefully, they can deliver surprises and demonstrate that Asian football continues to progress,” said Norsan after playing football with residents in Temajuk Village, Paloh District, Sambas Regency, on Saturday evening, 13 June 2026.
Norsan mentioned that the development of Asian football in recent years has shown significant improvement.
Therefore, he hopes that Asian nations can compete strongly against top teams from Europe and South America.
On the same occasion, Norsan also emphasised the importance of sports as a means to strengthen unity and community togetherness.
According to him, football is a sport that can bring people together regardless of ethnic background, religion, or social status.
“Sports, especially football, can unite all communities. On the field, everyone mingles, supports one another, and upholds sportsmanship,” he said.
“This spirit must continue to be nurtured to strengthen national unity,” he added.
