India Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for many parts of the country on June 16. According to the forecast, there is a possibility of heavy rain, storm and lightning in about 19 states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi.
New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of heavy rain and strong thunderstorm for large parts of the country. According to the forecast, a major change in weather can be seen in 19 states on June 16, where there is a possibility of winds blowing at a speed of 80 to 90 kilometers per hour along with heavy rain in many areas.
The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain alert, especially farmers and those working in outdoor areas, to take extra precautions.
Alert issued in which states?
According to IMD, the 19 states where alert of heavy rain and thunderstorm has been issued include:
Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
There is a possibility of rain and lightning along with strong winds in different areas in these states.
Danger of strong winds and storms
According to the Meteorological Department, wind speed in some areas can reach 80 to 90 km per hour. This is likely to cause falling of trees, disruption of power supply and damage to weak structures. A warning of lightning (thunderstorm) has also been issued in parts of eastern and central India.
There is a possibility of rain with thunder in the capital Delhi on June 16. The wind speed here can range from 65 to 70 km per hour. The temperature is expected to be 37°C maximum and 29°C minimum.
Situation in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar
There is an alert of heavy rain and strong thunderstorm in Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Kanpur, Agra and other districts. Wind speed can reach 80–85 km per hour in some areas. Warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm has been issued in Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Purnia and other districts. People have been advised to avoid going to open places.
There is a possibility of hailstorm at some places along with heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir. Strong winds of 60 to 70 km per hour may occur in these states, increasing the risk of landslides and road disruptions.

According to the Meteorological Department, Cyclonic Circulation is active at lower atmospheric levels around Northern Haryana and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This system is causing unstable weather across North and East India.
