BANJARMASINPOST.CO.ID – Here is the broadcast schedule and match timing for the Portugal vs Congo national team game in the 2026 World Cup, which will be aired live on TVRI late at night.
The Portugal vs Congo match is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 18 June at 00:00 WIB or 01:00 WITA.
This Group K World Cup 2026 fixture will be held at Houston Stadium.
The game can also be streamed live online via Folaplay and MAXStream.
Additionally, fans can enjoy the match through public viewing (nobar) events.
In South Kalimantan, several locations will host viewing parties, including the TVRI South Kalimantan courtyard on Jalan A. Yani Km6, Banjarmasin.
Besides the TVRI compound, viewing events are also being organized at all district and precinct police headquarters across South Kalimantan.
Several cafes have also registered to host World Cup 2026 public screenings, including the Portugal vs Congo match.
Portugal’s quest for glory at the 2026 World Cup begins on Wednesday as they kick off their Group K campaign against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Selecao das Quinas have never lifted the World Cup trophy but are considered strong contenders this summer owing to their high-quality squad.
Portugal’s best World Cup finish came in 1966 when they secured third place.
Since then, the national team has struggled, placing fourth in 2006 and suffering a quarter-final exit in the most recent World Cup in Qatar.
Given the squad’s depth in recent years, Portugal have yet to fully realise their potential in the tournament.
They did capture one major international title, winning the Euro 2016, but the World Cup remains the coveted goal for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Under coach Roberto Martinez, Portugal are heavy favourites to top Group K, which also includes Colombia and Uzbekistan.
They enter the 2026 World Cup on the back of three consecutive friendly wins over the USA, Chile, and Nigeria.
Portugal concluded their qualification campaign with a commanding 9-1 victory over Armenia.
However, a defeat to the Republic of Ireland late last year has raised questions about their ability to go all the way this summer.
Wednesday’s match will mark the first-ever meeting between Portugal and the DR Congo.
It would be one of the tournament’s biggest upsets if the Leopards manage to deny Portugal a win in Houston.
The Democratic Republic of Congo recently held Denmark to a goalless draw in one of their two pre-World Cup friendlies in early June, though they lost 2-1 to Chile in their last outing.
The Leopards secured their first World Cup qualification in 52 years when Axel Tuanzebe’s extra-time goal earned them a 1-0 victory over Jamaica in the intercontinental playoff final in Mexico last March.
DR Congo also reached the Round of 16 in the recent Africa Cup of Nations.
They have won two of their last four matches, losing only once during that stretch.
The expanded World Cup format gives Sébastien Desabre’s side a better chance to reach the knockout stage, with even a single group-stage win potentially enough to progress as a third-placed team.
Portugal represent DR Congo’s toughest challenge in Group K, while their fixture against Uzbekistan on 27 June could prove decisive in determining their fate.
Portugal have no injury concerns ahead of this contest, and coach Roberto Martinez is expected to stick with his strongest lineup. The 41-year-old Ronaldo will lead the attack, making his 229th appearance for the national team.
Ronaldo will aim to extend his tally of 143 international goals this summer and seek redemption after a disappointing 2022 World Cup, in which he scored just once.
The Al-Nassr striker was sent off against the Republic of Ireland during the qualifiers late last year.
However, he received a one-year suspension covering the second and third matches, as that red card was the veteran’s first in 225 international appearances.
Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, and Vitinha are expected to start after helping Paris Saint-Germain clinch the 2025–26 Champions League, while Bruno Fernandes—who had an outstanding season with Manchester United—will also feature in the starting XI.
As for DR Congo, several familiar names populate their squad, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe, Chancel Mbemba, and Arthur Masuaku, all likely to line up in a five-man defence.
Noah Sadiki from Sunderland could start in midfield, while the attacking responsibility will fall on Newcastle United’s Yoane Wissa and Real Betis striker Cedric Bakambu.
Bakambu is the team’s top scorer with 21 goals, while Wissa, who struggled for form at Newcastle last season, has nine international goals to his name.
Probable Portugal Starting XI:
D. Costa; Cancelo, Dias, Inacio, Mendes; J. Neves, Fernandes, Vitinha; Bernardo, Ronaldo, Neto
Probable DR Congo Starting XI:
Mpasi; Wan-Bissaka, Kapuadi, Tuanzebe, Mbemba, Masuaku; Moutoussamy, Sadiki, Mukau; Wissa, Bakambu.
