Saudi Arabia and Uruguay are set to kick off their World Cup campaigns on Monday evening when they face each other in Miami. The encounter follows the earlier Group H fixture between Spain and Cape Verde, which sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting group.
Under the guidance of former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa, two-time World Cup champions Uruguay will look to start strongly against a Saudi Arabian team whose only appearance in the knockout rounds came the last time the tournament was hosted in the United States, back in 1994.
The match is scheduled to begin at 11 pm UK time, with live coverage broadcast on ITV1 and streamed online via ITVX. Laura Woods will lead the ITV studio coverage, joined by pundits Duncan Ferguson, Karen Carney, and Jobi McAnuff.
Former Everton striker Duncan Ferguson, who earned seven caps for Scotland during an international career hindered by injuries and disagreements with the Scottish Football Association, will lend his insight to the panel. Ferguson featured in one major tournament, Euro 1992, and has since transitioned into punditry following his managerial stint with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Karen Carney, who represented England 144 times over a 15-year international career with the Lionesses, will also be part of the expert line-up. Carney competed in nine major tournaments, including four World Cups. One of her standout campaigns came in 2015, when England reached the semi-finals in Canada.
Completing the studio team is Jobi McAnuff, the former Crystal Palace, Watford, and Reading midfielder. McAnuff, now 44, earned 32 international caps for Jamaica and brings his experience and perspective to the Group H analysis panel.
The 11 pm UK start time presents a familiar challenge for fans watching from this side of the Atlantic, as they balance late-night viewing with the next morning’s routine.
In the commentary booth at Miami Stadium, known outside the World Cup as Hard Rock Stadium, Joe Speight will take on lead commentary duties. Assisting him as co-commentator will be Lucy Ward, a well-known voice in football broadcasting, recognised for her work with TNT Sports.
Following this fixture, Uruguay will remain in Miami to play Cape Verde on Sunday, while Saudi Arabia will face Spain in Atlanta later the same day.
