A major decision has been taken by the Central Government on 16 June. Under this decision, the export duty of petroleum products has been changed. After this, the duty on diesel and aviation turbine fuel has been increased. Let us know what effect this will ultimately have on the common man’s pocket.

Talking about the duty imposed by the government, now special additional excise duty of Rs 14 per liter will be imposed on the export of diesel. Whereas, excise duty of Rs 12.5 per liter will have to be paid on the export of ATF. There has been no change in the export of petrol. Its rate will remain at Rs 1.5 per liter as before.

Why was the export duty increased?

This fee was first implemented on 27 March 2026. Due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia, both the demand and price of crude oil and petroleum production had increased in the international market. In such a situation, the refinery was benefiting more from exports rather than from the domestic market. This decision has been taken so that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel and aviation fuel in the country and the refinery company does not give priority to exports.

Review is done every 15 days

Let us tell you that the rates of petrol and diesel and the charges levied on them are reviewed every 15 days. The new rate decided this time has been decided on the basis of international prices of crude oil and petroleum products in the last 15 days. Before this, a change was seen on June 1, 2026.

What will be the impact on the general public?

Whenever any duty is reduced or increased, it has a direct impact on the pocket of the common man. However, the export duty which has been increased now will not have any impact on the common people. There has been no change in the excise duty of petrol and diesel in the domestic market. Fuel will be available at the same price at the pump.
