Palangka Raya Deputy Mayor Awaits Argentina and Portugal’s Performances

Palangka Raya Deputy Mayor Achmad Zaini expressed his excitement ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing it as a long-awaited global football celebration that brings together the best players from around the world.

“We should be grateful. This year, God willing, we can once again follow the World Cup matches. It’s a great opportunity for all of us to watch and enjoy. I’m personally a football fan,” said Zaini after attending a ceremony commemorating Pancasila Day at the Palangka Raya City Hall on Monday, June 1, 2026.

He hopes that the festive spirit of the 2026 World Cup can also be felt by residents of Palangka Raya, suggesting public viewing events as a way to strengthen community bonds through shared football enthusiasm.

“Hopefully, we can watch together. We expect to have some community viewing events here in our city. I’ll also bring this up with the Mayor of Palangka Raya,” he added.

When asked about his favourite players, Zaini admitted that he still admires veteran football icons who have long dominated the global stage. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi remain his top picks when discussing international football.

“Yes, my favourite players are still the senior ones — like Messi and Ronaldo,” he said with a smile.

Nevertheless, Zaini hopes that the 2026 World Cup will not only highlight established stars but also serve as a platform for emerging young talents to showcase their abilities at the highest level.

He pointed out that one of the most exciting aspects of the World Cup is the emergence of promising youngsters who rise to become global football stars.

“There will be many outstanding players. Hopefully, this World Cup will produce world-class talents, as it often becomes the stage where future stars are born,” he explained.

Zaini emphasized the importance of continuous player development to ensure that world football remains captivating for fans across generations. He believes it is time for a new generation to step up and take the mantle from the senior players who have defined the sport for years.
