Deputy Mayor of Palangka Raya, Achmad Zaini, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He said that the world’s biggest football event is a moment eagerly awaited by the public to witness high-quality matches featuring the best players in the world.
“We should be happy. This year, God willing, we will again be able to follow the World Cup matches. This is a great opportunity for all of us to watch together. I personally am also a football fan,” said Zaini after attending a joint ceremony commemorating Pancasila Day at the Palangka Raya City Hall on Monday, 1 June 2026.
He hopes the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will also be felt by the people of Palangka Raya.
One of the ways to do this, he said, is through public viewing events that can serve as a medium for community togetherness while enjoying the matches.
“Hopefully, we can watch together. We hope there will be moments in our city for public screenings or group viewings. I will also convey this to the Mayor of Palangka Raya,” he added.
Regarding his favourite players, Zaini admitted that he still admires the senior stars who have long been icons of world football.
The names Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi remain deeply attached in his mind when talking about international football.
“Yes, my favourite players are still the senior ones – like Messi and Ronaldo,” he said with a smile.
However, he also hopes that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will not only feature widely known stars but also give rise to new talents capable of showcasing their abilities at the highest level.
According to him, one of the main attractions of the World Cup is the emergence of young players who perform impressively and later develop into global football stars.
“Essentially, there are many players we can look forward to. Hopefully, this World Cup will produce world-class talents, because usually the World Cup is where we see the rise of such players,” he stated.
He also emphasized the importance of continuous player regeneration so that world football continues to offer exciting spectacles for fans.
He believes it is time for the new generation to step up and become the successors to the senior international footballers.
