Assembly elections are to be held in Uttar Pradesh next year. The round of discussion regarding alliance and seat sharing has already started there. When Asaduddin Owaisi talked about exploring the possibility of alliance in the elections in the state, Congress is also busy in preparations. However, Congress MP from Saharanpur Imran Masood cautioned his allies including Samajwadi Party and said that Congress will decide its own candidates. Other parties should not tell us which candidate to field. Also said that this is the time to fight together.

Emphasizing the need for unity among opposition parties after the West Bengal election results, Imran Masood said, “This is the time to fight together.” Especially after the election results of West Bengal. Amid efforts to identify seats and reach an agreement on seat-sharing between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, both parties are part of the INDIA alliance.

Now is not the time to think: Imran Masood

Masood said that such decisions are taken during open talks. He said, "I don't understand the issue of asking and giving. All this is decided by sitting and talking. After West Bengal, now is not the time to think. Rather, it is time to fight together. Only the party leadership will decide."

The Congress leader also said that Congress will never compromise on its independence and will have full control over the process of selecting candidates. He said, "We will decide the Congress candidates ourselves. No other party will tell us which candidates we should field and who we should not."

Owaisi refuses to sign agreement with AIMIM

On the other hand, keeping in mind the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections to be held in February next year, MP Imran Masood on Tuesday rejected the possibility of an alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM. He said that it is necessary to fight both types of “communalism”. Masood says, "If we have to fight communalism, we will have to fight both types of communalism. It cannot be that you criticize one type of communalism and join hands with the other. We have to fight both."

Earlier on Monday, Owaisi said that his party is ready to form a political alliance to "stop" BJP from returning to power in Uttar Pradesh elections next year. Speaking to ANI, Owaisi made it clear that although he is ready to partner with other opposition groups, any such arrangement should be based on mutual respect and fair representation.

What is the current situation in UP Assembly?

Owaisi said, “We are ready to form an alliance to stop BJP from returning to power in Uttar Pradesh, provided we are respected and given equal status in the alliance.”

In the assembly elections 2027 in Uttar Pradesh, a tough contest is expected between the two major parties (Bharatiya Janata Party) and Samajwadi Party (SP). There are 403 members in the current assembly, out of which 258 are from BJP, 107 from SP and 13 from Apna Dal. Apart from this, 9 of Rashtriya Lok Dal; Suheldev 6 of Bharatiya Samaj Party; 5 of our weak Indian exploited group; Jansatta Dal Democratic and 3 from Congress; And Bahujan Samaj Party has only one MLA.
