Brazilian football legend Ronaldo has called for calm among fans eager to see teenage striker Endrick in action, following Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Morocco in their 2026 World Cup opener. The iconic former forward insisted that the 19-year-old is fully prepared for the tournament but must bide his time as other attacking options are currently in form.

Fans call for Endrick’s inclusion

Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to leave the Real Madrid youngster on the bench drew criticism from supporters who believed Endrick could have been the key to breaking down Morocco’s defence. The teenager had recently scored a decisive goal in a friendly against Egypt, prompting many to argue that he deserved a starting spot. Ronaldo, however, supported Ancelotti’s choices, explaining that an injury to midfielder Bruno Guimaraes disrupted Brazil’s planned substitutions late in the match.

Ronaldo outlines Brazil’s attacking order

Speaking on Resenha da Copa, the 2002 World Cup winner emphasised that Endrick is on the same level as his senior teammates but must respect the team’s depth and structure.

Ronaldo said: “I am confident he will get his chance. He’ll come on at some stage, but right now he’s the third option in attack. We have Igor Thiago, we have Matheus Cunha, and then it’s him.

“I believe he would have come on against Morocco if not for the substitution when Bruno Guimaraes asked to be taken off... That’s an important detail. Carlo Ancelotti was clearly pushing for the win. But make no mistake, he’s ready — absolutely ready.

“He’s competing with top-quality players. He’s on the same level as Matheus Cunha from Manchester United, and Igor Thiago, who finished as a top scorer in England. So we’re well-covered in attack.”

Goal difference now a key factor

Pressure is intensifying on Brazil to secure all three points and regain momentum after their unexpected draw. Ronaldo stressed that their next group game against Haiti must be used to rebuild confidence and sharpen their attacking efficiency.

He added: “This next match will be crucial for everyone to gain confidence. Of course, the win is vital, but goal difference will play a big role in deciding first place in the group. We need to take every opportunity so we don’t face difficulties later.”

Upcoming group challenges

The Selecao must rediscover their finishing touch before heading to Philadelphia for their second group-stage clash with Haiti. Ancelotti’s star-studded side will then conclude their group games against a determined Scotland team in Miami. Securing a convincing win over Haiti with a strong goal margin will be essential to Brazil’s hopes of finishing top of their group and earning a favourable path in the knockout rounds.
