Argentina won their 2026 World Cup opener against ALgeria with the help of their star player Lionel Messi on Tuesday.
The match was played between the reiginh champions and the North African team on June 16 in Kansas City Stadium.
The stadium witnessed history with Messi scoring his first ever World Cup hattrick.
The player also became the first ever player to feature in 6 World Cups after previously playing ever single one from 2006 onwards.
In addition to the records, Messi also played 200th game for his nation.
The 38-year-old’s sixth world cup record will be likely equalled by the Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo who plays against DR Congo on Wednesday in the Houston Stadium.
The World Cup began on June 11 with th eopening match between Mexico and Saudi Arabia which the host team won.
The final will be played on July 19, featuring the first ever half-time show in the tournament’s history.
