Ghana are set to take on Panama in their opening Group L encounter of the 2026 World Cup this evening. The match marks the 23rd fixture of the tournament so far.
The game will be held at Toronto Stadium in Canada, kicking off at 12:00 AM UK time. British fans will be able to watch the action live on ITV.
The Black Stars enter the contest in troubling form, having suffered six defeats in their last seven matches, with their only respite being a draw against Wales.
The Group L clash between Ghana and Panama will be overseen by Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg. Assisting him on the sidelines will be fellow Swedes Mahbod Beigi and Andreas Soderkvist.
Nyberg, who once famously sent off Cristiano Ronaldo for dissent, will take charge of this crucial encounter. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties will be handled by Saudi Arabian officials Khalid Alturais and Mohammed Alabakry.
A FIFA-listed referee since 2016, Nyberg brings a wealth of experience to the tournament, having previously officiated at three UEFA European Championship fixtures. Known for his disciplined approach, the Swede averages around 3.5 yellow cards per game.
Nyberg has also refereed 23 matches in the UEFA Champions League, including a thrilling 3-3 encounter between Club Brugge and Atletico Madrid during the play-offs in February.
In November, Nyberg made headlines once again when he showed the red card to Cristiano Ronaldo for violent conduct, an incident that occurred during a match where Troy Parrott netted twice.
Panama, on the other hand, come into the match in far better form, looking to build on their recent performances as they aim for an important early victory in Group L.
