CBSE 3-Language Policy: There is currently no respite in the ongoing legal battle regarding CBSE's new three-language policy. The Supreme Court has flatly refused to issue an interim order on the petition challenging the new CBSE system that mandates the teaching of three languages starting from Class 9. The next hearing for this matter is now scheduled for July 14. Meanwhile, CBSE has clarified that preparations to implement the new language policy from the 2026-27 academic session will continue.
The Supreme Court has declined to grant any interim relief regarding the petition filed against CBSE's new three-language policy, which is set to be implemented from Class 9. The apex court stated that the matter has already been debated at length; therefore, no interim order could be issued at this stage. A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice V. Mohan tagged this petition with other similar pending petitions and fixed July 14 as the date for the hearing.
Who filed the petition?
The petition was filed by a non-governmental organization (NGO) named 'Friends of People for Active Democracy'. The organization informed the court that it was not opposing the three-language policy itself, but rather challenging the manner of its implementation. During the hearing, Justice Surya Kant made a light-hearted remark regarding the organization's name. He asked whether the name was chosen to instill fear in the minds of the court or the public. In response, the petitioner's counsel stated that it is an established trust dating back to 2013.
