Former West Bengal minister Jyoti Priya Malik said on Friday that she has resigned from all posts of Trinamool Congress due to ill health. Malik, a long-time aide of Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee, said that he has already informed the party leadership about his decision. He said, I have resigned from all posts of Trinamool due to my ill health.
This matter comes days after Trinamool made a major reshuffle in its organization and included Malik in its reconstituted working committee. Malik served as the state's Food and Supplies Minister from 2011 to 2021. His political career suffered a major setback when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in October 2023 in connection with the alleged ration distribution scam.
After his arrest, Malik repeatedly cited health issues and was medically examined several times while in custody. The announcement of his resignation has come amid ongoing differences within Trinamool. Recently Jyoti Priya was included in the working committee of Trinamool Congress. However, due to physical illness he is unable to fulfill his responsibilities. Jyotipriya Mallik has said this in the letter.
According to sources, Jyotipriya Mallik has written in the letter that her blood sugar level has reached 350. He is suffering from complex kidney problem. In such a situation, it is no longer possible for him to perform his duties for the party. However, fresh speculations have started in political circles regarding the resignation of Jyotipriya Mallik.
Jyotipriya Malik's name is at the forefront among Mamata Banerjee's close associates. Right from the beginning of Trinamool, he remained with Mamata as a soldier of the party during her days of struggle.
