If you are a ration cardholder and collect government rations monthly, you must know exactly how much ration you are entitled to. Often, people lack accurate information regarding their eligibility and the prescribed quantity. Consequently, they fail to fully exercise their rights or may inadvertently fall victim to fraud. Addressing this issue, the Department of Food & Public Distribution recently shared information via a post on the social media platform 'X'. Let us understand the details:
How much ration do PHH cardholders receive?
If you hold a 'Priority Household' (PHH) card under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY)—meaning 'Priority Household' is specified on your ration card—you are entitled to 5 kg of ration per family member each month. Simply put, if your family has 5 members, you will receive a total of 25 kg of rations monthly. The ration quantity is determined based on the number of registered family members.
How much ration do AAY cardholders receive?
If 'Antyodaya Anna Yojana' (AAY) is specified on your ration card, you are provided with 35 kg of ration per month for the entire family, rather than an allocation based on individual members.
Always obtain a receipt when collecting rations.
It is essential to collect a receipt after receiving your ration. The receipt records the quantity of ration issued to you, allowing you to easily verify whether you have received the prescribed amount. In the event of future issues or complaints, this receipt serves as valid proof.
What to do if you receive fewer rations?
Do not remain silent if you receive less than the prescribed quantity of ration; you can lodge a formal complaint. You may use the 'Anna Sahayata' WhatsApp number (9868200445), the IVRS number (14457), or the 'Mera Ration' app for this purpose.
Once a complaint is registered, the concerned officials investigate the matter. In such a scenario, if you are a ration cardholder, stay informed about your rights, make sure to check the quantity every time you collect your rations, and immediately lodge a complaint in case of any discrepancy.
