As India celebrates 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's governance through various public outreach and service initiatives, Gujarat is preparing for a record-breaking celebration of the 12th International Day of Yoga.
Sharing details of the statewide event, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state's main Yoga Day celebration will be held in Mansa Taluka of Gandhinagar district, where more than 4,000 participants are expected to perform yoga together.
‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’ Theme to Take Center Stage
This year's International Day of Yoga will be celebrated under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” focusing on promoting physical and mental well-being among senior citizens.
According to state officials, more than 10 major yoga-related events based on the theme have already been successfully conducted across Gujarat. In the lead-up to Yoga Day, approximately 24,000 programs have been organized in schools, colleges, corporate offices, industries, parks, and public spaces throughout the state.
More Than 1.25 Crore Citizens Expected to Participate
The Gujarat government has set an ambitious target to make Yoga Day a true people's movement.
Harsh Sanghavi announced that more than 1.25 crore (12.5 million) citizens are expected to participate simultaneously in on-ground yoga protocol training sessions across the state on June 21.
To ensure the success of the mega event, district collectors, municipal commissioners, local administrations, and social organizations have been working together through various coordination committees and planning teams.
Statewide ‘Yoga Week’ Underway
As part of the celebrations, Gujarat is observing a special Yoga Week from June 14 to June 20.
During the week, a series of dedicated programs have been organized for different sections of society, including sanitation workers, women, senior citizens, and farmers. Out of the 12 planned special events, 10 have already been completed, while the remaining two are scheduled to take place over the next few days.
Mass Yoga Sessions Across 33 Districts
On June 21, synchronized yoga sessions will be conducted simultaneously across Gujarat's 17 municipal corporations, 33 districts, all talukas, and rural areas.
Officials believe the massive participation and statewide coordination could make Gujarat one of the largest contributors to International Yoga Day celebrations in India, reinforcing the state's commitment to health, wellness, and community engagement through yoga.
