Shahid Kapoor is back on the big screen for the second time this year with Cocktail 2, one of the most anticipated romantic films of 2026. Directed by Homi Adajania, the film stars Shahid alongside Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna and is a spiritual sequel to the Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty's Cocktail. However, before its release, the film created buzz for an unexpected reason - the CBFC granted it an A (Adults Only) certificate. This came as a surprise to many, including the actor himself.
Shahid Kapoor Reacts To 'A' Certificate For Cocktail 2
Shahid Kapoor expressed his confusion over the film receiving an A-certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). As reported by ETimes, he said there is nothing in the film that could offend anyone or make it unsuitable for families.
Shahid said he was still trying to figure out why the film got an A-certificate, as he simply did not understand the decision. He described Cocktail 2 as a story of three people, one that the whole family can watch together without any issue.

The actor further said that he hoped audiences would walk out of the theatre with a big smile on their faces, thinking about life. He added that life has many special moments, and Cocktail 2 is the kind of film that reminds you of those moments.
The CBFC granted the film its A certificate on June 16 and cleared it with only audio modifications. Notably, the first film in the franchise, released in 2012, was rated U/A.
Cocktail 2 Arrives In Theatres, Set For A Good Opening
released in theatres today, June 19, and the early signs look promising at the box office. So far, the film has received decent to positive reviews from critics and initial word-of-mouth from the public seems encouraging as well.
Cocktail 2 wrapped up its advance booking phase with a total gross of Rs 8.83 crore, including block seats. In major national chains, it secured Rs 3.25 crore from approximately 76,000 ticket sales, with PVR leading at Rs 1.9 crore.
Early projections suggest the film could net between Rs 12 crore and Rs 14 crore on its opening day, which would make it one of the strongest Bollywood openers of 2026.
The film is backed by Maddock Films and Luv Films. It has a runtime of 150 minutes and is expected to perform well in urban markets.
