Carlo Ancelotti made a bold adjustment to Brazil’s starting line-up at the World Cup on Friday, and the player he brought in delivered exactly what the team needed.

Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha, wearing the no. 9 jersey for Brazil, found the back of the net twice in a standout display – with football legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho watching from the stands.

Cunha opened the scoring by reacting quickest after Vinicius Junior’s initial shot was parried, slotting the rebound home from close range to put Brazil ahead.

Not content with just one goal, Cunha showcased his pace and movement shortly after. Making a diagonal run between two central defenders from the left, he coolly struck the ball into the top corner to make it 2-0 before half-time.

The brace marked Cunha’s first for the national team and served as a perfect example of a player rising to the occasion when his country needed him most.

The last Brazilian to score a hat-trick at the World Cup was Pelé back in 1958. Whether Cunha manages to emulate that feat or not, Ancelotti will surely find it hard to leave him out of the starting eleven after such a performance.
