A month-long summer camp aimed at fostering young talent in music, dance, art, and vocational skills wrapped up at Sangeet Sadan, Mandi, on Friday. The Pratibha Creative Fusion Summer Camp, organized by the Pratibha Pushp Foundation, USA, concluded with an engaging cultural program that highlighted the artistic accomplishments of the participants.
The event's chief guest, District Language Officer Revati Saini, commended Sangeet Sadan for its enduring role in promoting music and the arts. She emphasized that the institution has continually offered a platform for emerging talent while providing them with practical skills aimed at self-employment. Saini also mentioned that the Language Department intends to organize similar workshops to safeguard and promote Himachal Pradesh’s rich folk art and cultural heritage.
Gagan Kashyap, the former Deputy Chairman of the Mandi Municipal Council and a newly elected Municipal Corporation Councillor, was present as a guest of honour. He praised the institution's initiatives, stating, “Music brings people together, while politics often divides. Perhaps politicians should also embrace music.”
Director Umesh Bhardwaj noted that the annual camp aimed to enhance both artistic and vocational skills among young girls. In addition to training in vocal and instrumental music and dance, participants were taught to create eco-friendly products from pine needles, artificial jewellery, and decorative handicrafts, opening avenues for self-employment.
The valedictory function showcased a vibrant cultural program, including Saraswati Vandana, classical singing, Himachali folk performances, and dance acts by the trainees. A fashion show featuring traditional Himachali attire was one of the highlights of the event.
An exhibition of handicrafts and creative products produced during the workshop illustrated the practical skills acquired throughout the month-long training.
Attendees included retired professor O.C. Malhotra, Rotarian Nalin Kapoor, senior litterateur Murari Sharma, members of the Old Boys Association, and various other esteemed citizens. The workshop was coordinated by Isha Dogra, with stage management by retired teacher Jayshree.
