Rani Durgavati University located in Jabalpur has announced to remove the word “India” from degree and mark sheets and write the word “Bharat”. The university has taken this step before the convocation ceremony to be held on Sunday, in which President Draupadi Murmu is also going to be a part. The university is going to implement this change for the first time on posters, banners, degrees, certificates and medals. The institute has described it as a positive initiative towards giving respect to Indian culture, credibility and national pride.
This change has been implemented after the proposal was passed by the Executive Council. The university has also decided that during the program, President Murmu will be formally addressed as “President of India” instead of “President of India”. Vice Chancellor Rajesh Verma said that this step has been taken under Article 1(1) of the Constitution, which says “India That is Bharat”.
The 36th convocation of Rani Durgavati University is going to be organized on June 21. President Draupadi Murmu will attend as the chief guest. 240 gold medals will be distributed during this program. PhD degrees will be awarded to 182 students. State Governor and University Chancellor Mangubhai Patel will also participate in this program. Apart from this, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar will also be present as special guests.
Many universities in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have decided to use the word “Bharat” in place of “India” on degrees, marksheets, posters, banners, official correspondence, invitations and sign boards. This includes Devi Ahilya University, Guru Ghasidas University and Mansingh Tomar Music and Art University. These universities have passed resolutions to implement the change.
