Kamakhya Temple: Kamakhya Devi Temple is situated on Nilanchal mountain in Guwahati, Assam. This temple is included in 51 Shaktipeeths. There is a religious and mythological belief that the yogi part of Goddess Sati had fallen at this place. No idol is worshiped here, rather a vagina shaped stone is worshiped in the sanctum sanctorum, from which water keeps flowing. Devotees seek the blessings of the Mother Goddess by touching the vagina shaped stone and flowing water.

This is the only temple in the country where the goddess menstruates. That means their menstrual cycle starts. During this time the doors of the temple are closed. At this time, Ambubachi fair is held outside the temple. Ambubachi fair will start from tomorrow i.e. 22nd June. A large number of devotees reach this fair. Tomorrow night at 9:08 pm 42 seconds, the Pravritti ritual will take place and the doors of the temple will be closed.

goddess's time of rest

After this, there will be regular puja (Nivriti) in the morning on 26th. After the puja, the doors of the temple will be reopened. Before the start of the Ambubachi fair, the priests in the temple keep white underwear near this stone. After this the temple is closed. It is believed that this is the time of Goddess's rest and the creation receives new energy again. During this time the water of Brahmaputra river also turns red.

Angodak cloth is available in Prasad

When the doors of the temple are opened, the white Angavastra kept near the rock is found to be red. It is called Ambubachi cloth or Angodak cloth. This is given as Prasad to the devotees coming here. Along with devotees from all over the country and the world, sages, saints, Tantrik etc. also reach the Ambubachi fair and perform sadhana. It is believed that the spiritual practice done during this period is very beneficial. Ambubachi fair is considered a wonderful confluence of power, faith and respect for nature along with a religious event.
