Nicolas Jackson is reportedly prepared to remain with Chelsea this summer as he seeks to demonstrate his value to new head coach Xabi Alonso. The Senegalese forward will return to Stamford Bridge after an impressive loan stint in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
Alonso to assess Jackson during pre-season
The 25-year-old striker, currently representing Senegal at the World Cup, has become a key topic of discussion regarding his club future ahead of the 2026-27 season. After spending the previous campaign on loan at the Allianz Arena, Jackson is heading back to west London determined to fight for his place under recently appointed manager Xabi Alonso.
As reported by Football Insider, Jackson is postponing any decision on a potential transfer until later in the window to give himself the best opportunity to impress. Sources indicate that Alonso intends to evaluate his entire squad personally before deciding which players will feature in his long-term plans at Stamford Bridge.
Bayern Munich decline permanent signing
Jackson enjoyed a productive spell in Germany, contributing to Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga title triumph, though he was often used as a rotation player behind Harry Kane. Despite his efforts, the Bavarian club have chosen not to make his move permanent this summer.
The German champions held a £70 million option to sign the striker permanently but decided against activating it, allowing Jackson to return to England. “He’s going to return to Chelsea this pre-season and I’m sure Jackson will be looking to see if he can make an impact on Xabi Alonso,” explained transfer expert Pete O’Rourke on the Transfer Insider podcast. “It’s a clean slate for everybody at Chelsea and I’m sure Alonso will take a close look at each player.”
Interest from Serie A and Premier League clubs
While Jackson remains committed to proving himself in London, several clubs are monitoring his situation in case he becomes available. Serie A heavyweights Juventus and Napoli have both shown interest in the versatile striker as they seek to strengthen their attacking options for the upcoming campaign.
Within the Premier League, Newcastle United have also been linked with a possible move for the former Villarreal forward. Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown revealed that the Magpies have been approached about a potential transfer.
Jackson’s representatives are reportedly engaging with clubs across Europe to explore opportunities should his route to regular football at Chelsea be obstructed.
Intense competition for attacking spots at Stamford Bridge
Jackson faces a tough challenge to secure consistent playing time next season given Chelsea’s deep attacking lineup. With players such as Joao Pedro and Liam Delap already part of the squad, Alonso will need to manage a crowded frontline, particularly with no European fixtures to offer additional rotation options.
Nevertheless, Jackson’s ability to play across the front line and his long-term contract—extending until 2033—give Chelsea a strong position as they consider his future.
