Slovenian match official Slavko Vincic has been appointed to oversee the crucial Group J encounter between Jordan and Algeria. Joining him on the touchline will be his fellow countrymen Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic, who will serve as assistant referees for the fixture.

The 46-year-old referee has already handled one game in this tournament — a high-profile 1-1 draw between Brazil and Morocco held in New Jersey, the same venue that will host the final on July 19. In that match, Vinicius Junior found the net for Brazil.

Vincic is no stranger to major European fixtures. Last season, he officiated several matches in the continent’s premier club competition, notably Bayern Munich’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Real Madrid in the second leg of their quarter-final tie.

Fans of Chelsea will also recall Vincic’s presence in their European campaign. He refereed the Blues’ round-of-16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, which ended in a 3-0 defeat, and their 3-0 group-stage win over Barcelona.

Known for maintaining firm control of matches without excessive use of cards, Vincic issued six yellow cards and two reds during Bayern’s win over Real Madrid. However, his record shows restraint in general — across 27 matches since the start of the 2025/26 season, he has distributed 106 yellow cards and five red cards, averaging just under four yellows and one red every five games.

For the Jordan vs Algeria fixture, Jamaica’s Oshane Nation will serve as the fourth official in San Francisco, while Trinidad and Tobago’s Caleb Wales has been designated as the reserve assistant referee.

Jordan will be seeking their first-ever point in a World Cup campaign as they meet Algeria, though they may feel that only a victory will suffice, especially with reigning champions Argentina awaiting them in their next fixture.

As for the Desert Foxes, Algeria will be looking to replicate the success of their 2014 campaign, when they advanced beyond the group stage for the first time in their history.
