Manchester United’s pursuit of a flexible attacking option could see them make a signing that stirs debate among supporters.
Back in 2009, former Liverpool academy graduate Michael Owen famously joined United on a free transfer after spells with Real Madrid and Newcastle United — a move that did not sit well with fans on Merseyside.
Now, United appear to be targeting another product of Liverpool’s youth system, Harry Wilson, who is about to become a free agent once his contract with Fulham expires on 30 June.
As reported by SportsBoom, Manchester United have entered the competition to secure Wilson’s signature, with the Welsh international nearing the end of his time at Craven Cottage.
Wilson made a permanent move to Fulham from Liverpool in 2022, following a series of loan spells away from Anfield.
Since arriving in London, the 29-year-old has become one of Fulham’s key attacking players, contributing an impressive 36 goals and 46 assists. Last season, he was directly involved in 17 Premier League goals — a testament to his consistent performance.
Manager Marco Silva has previously described Wilson as “incredible,” and the winger now seems prepared to follow his former boss out of the club.
Reports suggest that Fulham have largely accepted that their hopes of securing Wilson to a new contract are diminishing quickly.
In addition to Manchester United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly monitoring the situation surrounding the right-winger.
“His combination of creativity, adaptability, and top-flight experience has earned him broad admiration across the football community,” the report highlights.
Crysencio Summerville is another name on United’s shortlist, as the club aims to identify cost-effective attacking reinforcements compared to pricier options such as Yan Diomande and Iliman Ndiaye.
It is understood United see significant promise in the £43 million-rated West Ham winger, who is expected to leave the club following their relegation to the Championship.
However, Summerville’s price tag may rise, particularly after his standout performances for the Netherlands in the World Cup, which have attracted interest from several clubs.
