Train Safety Tips: Everyone travels by train, yet many people still leave their valuables behind or lose them due to negligence. Whether traveling by train or bus, exercising caution with valuables is crucial. Incidents of passengers losing their belongings or having them stolen are frequently reported.
Imagine losing your gold, cash, or phone during a journey; naturally, anyone would be distressed. However, instead of panicking, taking specific, necessary steps can help you recover your lost items.
Take these steps immediately if your belongings go missing.
- If any of your belongings go missing during the journey, inform the railway staff immediately.
- Also, notify the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) present on the train about the incident.
- If the TTE is not in the coach at that moment, inform the Station Master.
- You can also report the incident to the RPF (Railway Protection Force).
File a complaint online.
- You no longer need to visit the station to file a complaint.
- You can register a complaint using the ‘Rail Madad’ app or portal.
- The sooner you file the complaint, the sooner action will be initiated.
Utilize the helpline number.
- In the event of lost or stolen luggage, you can call the railway helpline number, 139.
- When filing the complaint, you will need to provide details such as the train number, seat number, and PNR number.
- Also, specify exactly what was lost and when the loss occurred.
- Providing this information will help expedite the search for your belongings.
What happens once the luggage is found?
- If your luggage is recovered, the railways will ask for your documents to return it to you. This will be requested solely for identification purposes; verification will be conducted based on your travel ticket and identity proof. Your luggage will be returned to you once the Railways has completed all the necessary formalities.
Important Points to Note
If you find yourself in a situation where your luggage is lost during the journey, do not panic; the first step is to call the railway helpline number and report the incident. The sooner you lodge a complaint, the greater the chances of recovering your luggage.
