FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on Tuesday that United States President Donald Trump will be attending at least one match during the 2026 FIFA World Cup — specifically, the final.

In an interview with Fox & Friends, Infantino stated that he and President Trump would jointly present the World Cup trophy to the winners following the tournament’s concluding match.

“We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner of course,” Infantino said.

President Trump has been noticeably absent from the World Cup so far, skipping the U.S. Men’s National Team’s opening fixture against Paraguay as well as their next match versus Australia.

According to The Athletic, Trump had earlier called the U.S. Men’s National Team before the tournament began, telling them, “I think you’ve got a really good chance of going all the way.”

Reports indicate that both President Donald Trump and FIFA chief Gianni Infantino will present the World Cup trophy together at the end of the 2026 tournament.

Outside of football, Trump attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals in New York City — the only match the New York Knicks lost — and also made an appearance at UFC 250, held on the White House lawn.

During his visit to Madison Square Garden for the Knicks game, the president was met with boos from spectators. Following the team’s defeat, fans were seen burning sage outside the arena before Game 4, claiming they were clearing away the negative energy brought by Trump’s presence.

Although some World Cup fans may disapprove of Trump’s involvement, his rapport with FIFA President Infantino appears to be strong.

The Swiss-born football administrator even presented Trump with the newly created FIFA World Peace award earlier this year after he was overlooked for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Infantino’s appearance on Fox News came just a day after The Telegraph ran a piece focusing on Trump’s absence from the World Cup.

The publication interviewed Andrew Giuliani, head of Trump’s World Cup task force, who suggested that the president’s non-attendance so far was intentional — a move to maintain suspense.

“I know he’s got a couple of international trips that he has planned as well as Independence Day, so the only thing I’ll tell you about my boss — and I’ve known him for, heck, 30 years, and he’s kind of like an uncle figure to me — he likes a good cliffhanger, right?” Giuliani said.

He added that Trump “likes to leave people watching, so all I can tell you is ‘keep tuned in,’ and I’m excited to see what the next steps are.”

Trump also drew attention earlier when he lingered on stage with Chelsea players after presenting the Club World Cup trophy at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

“They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage,” Chelsea star Reece James told the BBC. “I thought that he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay.”
